One to One: Day 4
by Tracey Armstrong

Matt 16:18 “And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. (NKJV)

There are many interpretations of this Scripture, but most of them agree that God is referring to Peter as a little stone and that God has determined to develop Peter into a rock. They take this view because the name Peter in Greek means a piece of a rock or a stone, and the word rock in Greek means a cliff or a massive rock. This implies that God was going to take Peter beyond what he currently was and beyond his current potential into a place that God alone can accomplish. Jesus is the only one who can take a shell of a man and create a gladiator, He is the only one who can take a fearful person and make them bold, and He is the only one that can take a chip of a rock and make it a whole rock.

God is determined to make you what you are not. God has determined to transform you into the Rock. Again, He wants to build you into the image of His Son, Jesus Christ. If you become like His Son, the Son of God, then you will build His Kingdom with the same vigor and determination that Jesus, the Son of God, built the Kingdom of God with. God’s motivation for changing us is to have more than one son to pass the family business to. The more sons and daughters that He has working with Him, the more profitable His business will be.

The problem is that most people are not concerned about building God’s house. Many are first and foremost concerned with building their own house and therefore neglect God’s house. But if we would really think about it, we would realize that God is the master builder and that the Lord is the only one who can build your house successfully anyway! So we should allow Him to build our house and in return we will be full of Him and just like Him. As children of God we have the benefit of having a Father who knows how to construct and we have a Father who loves to bless His children with the same things that He Himself has. All we have to do is DWJWD (Do What Jesus would Do).

Father, Your determination is to make me like Christ and my determination is to surrender to You to do in me what You have done in Christ. Make me more than a piece of a rock; make me a solid Rock. I will build Your Kingdom and live for You.

The best way to build the Kingdom of God is to allow God to use you to win the lost. Pray that God will give you wisdom to win a soul.
